The Silk Hill

I shot this video while studying abroad in Lyon last year. The second largest city in France is awesome for unicycling: trials, street, flatland, lots of gliding, and especially unicycle basketball. In this film we make our way to the top of La Croix-Rousse, one of the hills that forms Lyon, and blaze all the way back down. It's truly a sloped unicycle paradise.

Simplicity

This movie was shot on 16mm color film and is largely an experiment. Eyal Aharoni and Danny Jolles helped me produce the film, which was selected for UCSB's annual Reel Loud Film Festival, this past May. Also, I entered Simplicity in the video contest at Unicon 14 in Copenhagen. My friends composed the music and performed it live next to the projection of Simplicity for Reel Loud Festival. The audio in this quicktime video was recorded at the event.

Russian Card

Here's a video a made yesterday morning. I had to use a piece of "inspiration," which is the blue card in the beginning. The rest of the project was up to me, and I could use any medium I wanted... so I chose to make a little video. Thanks to my roommate Eric who helped with the movie even though he was sick with Pneumonia!

La Boule au Chocolat Blanc

Here is a video I made right before I left France. Enjoy, and bon appetit!

Invisible Harleys

Seven weeks of my life were devoted largely to this five minute movie. Michael Figge and I created a Mario Kart parody film, using no greenscreens, shooting 13 nights, and spending over a 100 hours slaving over After Effects.

Read more about it, and the competition we were involved with (and won!) at this blog post.

Tuxedo Junction

Finally, a unicycle movie staring my coker! This short was filmed by my good friend Michael Figge. I think the music is one of my favorite parts of this one... oh and the epic "true slow-motion" near the end :). The film's location is where I live in Isla Vista, California.

Hatisporet (The Haircut)

This is a crazy stop-motion that was made in 1 day. My housemate Elie and I came up with the idea, and I set to work on him. My friend Emil Margolis once again composed the music, which originates from a variety of sounds from around our house: skateboards, bottles, insense, drums, etc.

Bananas (Monkey Mix)

I made this film for the "Poo Poodles Video Contest" put on by thequietlife.com. It's a stop-motion piece, set to music by the band Poo Poodles.

The Dishwasher

I made this stop-motion film one afternoon while I did the dishes. It turned out pretty cool, with music by Chuck Berry.

Comic Cowboy

This short was made for a contest put on by Apple. I made this with my two friends Will Simons and John Kalan. Here is our entry page on apple. There were 3 elements that had to be included in the film, and all of them are listed in the guidelines.

Aesthetically Pleased

This is my first movie shot on film. It was made for UC Santa Barbara's 13th Annual Reel Loud Film Festival. I made this stop-motion piece with my friend Will Simons. Our friend Emil Margolis composed the music, which turned out awesome! We ended up getting 2nd place at the film festival, which had a sold out crowd of 800.

Trials Course Love 99

I filmed this video early January 2006, and edited it in the next couple months. UPDATE: My film got accepted into the 2007 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

UCSB Unicycling

This video has a KILLER soundtrack that is simply addicting.... see for yourself. I strongly recommend that you download the high quality version - there is some spectacular scenery that you just have to see in better quality! (note: I messed up the music credits. It's Jurassic 5, not Nas)

Konichiwheel

This is my 59 minute documentary on my 2004 trip to the Unicycling World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. This is definitely a LONG movie, but it has some cool stuff (like nifty intro/titles/credits/music). It really gives you a start to finish of what Unicon 12 was like for me. I've broken the movie into 2 parts, as you see to the right.

Deconstructing Desk

Ahhh, I had a pretty sweet desk setup. Seriously, it was so awesome I had to document the deconstruction! I don't think time-lapses ever get old... enjoy!

I Wear Stories

The first day of my 7c art class my TA took photos of all of us (and didn't tell us why). Then at the end of the quarter, for the last project, he emailed us the photo of ourselves and we had to make an art piece using some/all of the clothes we had on in the photo. Any kind of piece: sculpture, performance, drawing, video... I looked at the photo, and knew I had to make something about Unicycling shirts (I was wearing my Unicon 12 event shirt), and every shirt I pick in the morning has a story and fights for my attention. Figge helped me setup the lighting and animate the first "shirt squirm" part, and my housemate Ben stayed up until 4 in the morning with me making the music with his guitar and Garageband sitting on my bed. This short was done just in time for my class the next day. It's kind of unfinished, but whatever, I slapped credits on there and called it done.

7 explode

Another class project (Art 7a). We all had to record 1 minute of audio somewhere (anywhere!). We exchanged cds in class randomly, and then we had to manipulate the sound then put images to it. I made the audio I received sound spacy, and some parts a bit drum-like. This animation turned out pretty cool, especially the 2nd half. Oh yeah, those crickets I found in Kyle's room, he feeds them to his chameleon...

In-Flight Fun

So far, this is the only movie I've made entirely in-flight. The amazing thing about Apple's Macbook, is that has a webcam built-in. Fire up istopmotion, and you've got a truly mobile stopmotion rig! I dig the music in this.

Secret Disease Production Logo 1

This was an attempt to make an intro for my friends' production company. It's only like 10 seconds long, and it kind of weird. However, I had fun recording a few sounds effects! Anyway, they didn't use this, but they completed an amazing short film: Titan Sting. Hopefully it will be online soon...

This is raaaaannnndom. Some tests done at an amazing beachside bungalow in Maui. Some rockin music by Ozomatli.

Cleaning the Living Room

So you have to clean the living room... Might as well make a stopmotion out of it! Yeah... so nothing that special, but time-lapes and slow motion pretty much amaze me every time.

The New Mac

Summer 2006. My first animation with my new macbook. Pretty silly, but pourquoi pas? The end is pretty awesome though...

Skittle Test

I was going to make a short film about my friend Jess Fidler eating skittles, where the skittles kept eluding her hands, and broke out into choreographed musical on the table. Hah. So this is a test I did to make a really excited skittle bag.

Ode to Scott

Short random stopmotion of me opening a package. I was really excited because a finally bought the best unicycle handle there is, and it seemed appropriate to make an animation of the opening. Everyone should try this.

Oh yeah, the music is awesome! Thanks to Kyle :) p.s., it takes longer to load than expected, so just give it some time.

P.S. I made this with my old PC in my dorm room early 2006, using MonkeyJam.
